English Writing Skills Course
Our three English writing skills courses are designed for different levels of English language competence. Students learn how to write a wide variety of texts, including stories, letters, application forms and essays, according to their level and needs. There is a focus on the process of writing itself and on the needs of the reader.
Below is a summary of each of our courses designed to improve English writing skills:
Everyday English Writing Course
LEVELS 1 & 2
This course is run with our English reading skills courses. Students develop and practice producing a wide variety of written pieces that they will need in everyday life such as forms, contracts, note taking, e-mails and text messages.
In addition students will be given the opportunity to explore their own interests and prepare presentations from the notes they have taken. Emphasis is put on the importance of getting your message across clearly.
English Courses for Intermediate Writing Levels
LEVELS 3 & 4
This course is designed for students wishing to further develop and broaden their English writing skills and prepare them for taking an IELTS or exam course. Students are given the opportunity to practice and develop their skills in a wide variety of contemporary writing situations.
Emphasis is put on accuracy and clarity and the skills developed are:
- Describing data and identifying trends
- Presenting and justifying an opinion
- Describing diagrams
- Introducing a report
- Presenting the solution to a problem
- Analysing the task and planning a piece of writing
- Describing objects
Language skills include:
- Paragraphing and using link words and expressions
- Topic and supporting sentences
- Reference links
- Selecting relevant information
- Preparing a presentation
- Improving your writing style
Upper Intermediate & Advanced Levels
LEVELS 5 & 6
The course is designed for those wishing to take IELTS for entry to university and Higher Education. It is also suitable for those wishing to take other English tests or exams such as TOEIC, TOEFL and Cambridge ESOL.
Students will further develop the skills they were introduced to and practiced in the Foundation IELTS course as well as the following:
- Describing accurately
- Deciding on a point of view and developing it
- Organizing and sequencing ideas
- Comparing data
- Describing statistics and trends
- Text structure and organization
- Clear exposition
