Spinnaker College provides specially designed courses on English for academic purposes in the UK for students who need to improve their academic and general English before taking up a course in higher education.
What you will learn on a course on English for Academic Purposes in the UK
PSCE will broaden your understanding and use of essential academic language. You will develop and practice your writing and listening skills: note-taking, summarizing and analysis. Guidance and assessment of compositions and academic assignment writing also form a key part of the curriculum.
The speaking module of the course will improve your ability to take part effectively in seminars and workshops, together with developing your presentation skills. Through the study and analysis of a wide range of texts and articles, students will be prepared for a comprehensive range of reading tasks.
The Pre-Sessional course on English for academic purposes in the UK is designed to help you improve your IELTS score and ensure that you obtain a more even range of scores over the four parts of the test.
2011 Course Details and Requirements
Courses are open from 9th May and finish 9th September
The 12-week course may be joined on any Monday up to 20th June.
The 6-week course may be joined on any Monday up to 1st August.
25 hours tuition per week includes General English (15 hours) and Skills Development (10 hours).
Students will receive regular home-study assignments which form an integral part of the course.

Our courses on English for academic purposes in the UK and for high academic achievers with a low level of English, will be available for up to 18 months.
