GET THE IELTS SCORE YOU NEED
In order to demonstrate your level of English to a potential employer or academic organization you will need an internationally recognized English language qualification. Spinnaker College offers a range of international examinations including - IELTS, TOEIC and TOEFL.
The courses are designed to prepare you to rapidly achieve an optimum score in the test. The courses are taught by experienced, trained examination tutors led by a certified examiner.
About IELTS
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is designed to assess the language ability of candidates who want to work or study in countries where English is the primary language of communication.
Universities and colleges use IELTS to determine the English level of non-native speakers before they begin a course. There is no pass or fail but a scoring system from 0 - 9. Students are required to obtain a score between 5.5 and 7.5 depending on the type of course they wish to study.
IELTS is available in two modules:
- The Academic Module is for people who want to study an undergraduate or postgraduate degree course or who wish to register with a professional body.
- The General Training Module focuses on language skills in a wider social and educational setting. It is suitable if you are joining a training programme or doing work experience in an English speaking country, but is not designed for degree level. This module is also suitable for those wishing to emigrate to Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK.
IELTS is a pen and paper test. Candidates are tested in the four language skill areas - listening, reading, writing and speaking.
IELTS Preparation Course
The IELTS Preparation Course focuses specifically on exam strategies and techniques. To join the course you will need to have an Upper Intermediate (CEF B1) or Advanced (CEF C1) level.
The course will concentrate on the demands of academic reading and writing as well as the speaking and listening parts of the test.
Our experienced tutors will help you to understand how the test works and how to maximize your potential by looking at all the questions in the 4 papers in the test in detail to help you prepare for every possibility.
Students are constantly monitored and tested by their tutor to keep you aware of your progress and what score level you have reached.
Foundation IELTS Course
The Foundation IELTS Course is for those who are not ready for the IELTS Preparation Course. To join, you need to have an Intermediate level of English (CEF B1). The course will introduce you to the strategies and techniques of the test, while concentrating on the development of your reading, writing, listening and speaking skills and expanding your use of vocabulary and collocation.
