Students of the Month
Congratulations to this month’s students of the month – Rosella and Alessio from Sicily. Well done both of you.
Rosella finished university in July and now wants to work in England. In her free time she enjoys dancing, singing, listening to music … and she LOVES shopping! Her teacher says she works really hard and her English has improved.
Alessio works hard in class too and has a very positive attitude. He is going to Germany for 5 months as a research student. In his free time he likes swimming and playing water polo (he used to be a champion!).
They both say they love Spinnaker College and their teachers! Well done to both of you!
Albert Road
By Cristina and Rita from Spain
We would like to tell you something, about a place that we have visited since we arrived in Portsmouth – Albert Road.
We have been staying at a house very close to this street and we have had to walk along it every day. Here you can find many different bars and restaurants, and also some unusual shops. Each year, many people come to Albert Road to enjoy the Southsea Fest, like we did a few days ago. We had to buy a bracelet which allowed us to go into any bar of the road the whole day. In each one there were different kinds of live music, it was amazing! We especially enjoyed one of them, the Wedgewood Room, where you can often find people and live bands playing. If you want to have a good time, you should go to Albert Road and you’ll probably find somewhere that you really like.

Results of our Readership Survey
You appreciate the articles written by students about weekend excursions, so we’ll continue to publish these. In order to have more book/film reviews we’d like YOU to contribute! Just tell your teacher that you’d like to write something. The same with restaurant reviews – why not share with your fellow students the experience of a great place you’ve eaten at recently? You’ve asked for articles on British culture and customs, as well as interesting facts, so you’ll see a piece about the Harvest Festival in this issue. You also said you’d like to see jokes, so we hope the one we’ve chosen makes you laugh!
Joke of Month
One day a college professor of psychology was greeting his new college class. He stood up in front of the class and said, "Would everyone who thinks he or she is stupid please stand up?"After a minute or so of silence, a young man stood up. "Well, hello there sir. So you actually think you're a moron?" the professor asked.
The kid replied, "No sir, I just didn't want to see you standing there all by yourself."
The Harvest Festival
The harvest festival is a custom that has been celebrated annually in Britain since Pagan times. Traditionally it was a thanksgiving ceremony to show gratitude for the successful abundance of crops harvested and the freedom from agricultural work. People would acknowledge this occasion by decorating their churches with hampers of food, and singing popular songs. Within modern society it is a time to recognize that we live within a country where food is plentiful. People often celebrate by donating their extra foodstuffs to the local community or raising money for a chosen charity.
